"Exactly when an attack will occur is not known, but we have been forewarned more than once that all options remain on the table. The sequence of events now occurring with regards to Iran are eerily reminiscent of the hype prior to our pre-emptive strike against Iraq." HON. Iran Facts
The largest non-Arab power in the Middle East was condemned as part of an 'Axis of Evil' before the US-led war. Known as Persia until 1935, it is situated between Iraq and Pakistan on the vital oil routes of the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.
A new generation has tired of the claustrophobic rule of the old mullahs, so much so that many people envy the invasion of Iraq.
A brief history
Cyrus the Great established the Persian Empire - the world's first - in
550 BC. More than 15 centuries later, Ghenghis Kahn led a mongol invasion.
Recent times have seen civil conflict under Ayatollah Khomeini and war in
the Gulf.
